Wix to WordPress Website Redesign for a Service-based Company

The Client

Couple of Expats is a lifestyle blog and digital resource founded by Megha and Kris, a globally-minded couple sharing their journey of living in Finland. Their platform offers practical tips, heartfelt stories, and downloadable guides to help fellow internationals thrive in Finland. We partnered with Couple of Expats in 2024–2025 to redesign and rebuild their website, migrating from Wix to WordPress, with a focus on improved user experience, digital product sales, and long-term growth.

The Challenge

When I first connected with Couple of Expats, they were using Wix to manage their website. While Wix served them in the early stages of their project, it limited their ability to grow their content library, optimize for search engines, and sell digital products.

The goal was to create a modern, user-friendly WordPress website that could:

✅ Make it easier to share content
✅ Support sales of digital products
✅ Enhance SEO foundations

Our Solution

We designed a clean, content-first website experience that reflects Couple of Expats’ brand as an approachable, insightful, and globally-minded lifestyle platform.

Our work involved migrating the site from Wix to WordPress and enhancing the overall UX and UI through custom Figma designs. We also integrated e-commerce functionality using WooCommerce to support digital product sales, optimized the site for mobile and SEO performance, and set up analytics to track future growth and engagement.

My Approach

1. Discovery & Planning
I started by mapping out the site’s core goals, key audiences, and content priorities. We identified the need for better content categorization, faster performance, and clear calls to action for their services and products.

2. UX & UI Design in Figma
I created a clean, minimalist design that reflected their brand personality – warm, welcoming, and professional. Wireframes and prototypes were shared and refined collaboratively in Figma.

3. Development & Migration
Once the designs were approved, I:

Built a staging environment in WordPress
Developed custom templates and page layouts
Added new content from scratch
Set up e-commerce functionality to sell e-books and digital downloads using WooCommerce

4. SEO & Performance Optimization
I configured Google Analytics 4 and Search Console, optimized core web vitals, and ensured the site was mobile-friendly and fast-loading.

5. Training & Handover
To empower Megha and Kris to manage their content confidently, I recorded custom training videos.
